About Me

I started this blog to look at how songwriting, recording and music production meet technology and to really examine the impact the internet is having on independent musicians.

Who am I?

I play a few different instruments. I started when I was 4 years old. My mother was piano teacher and sometime opera singer. I went on to study violin, then bagpipes and drums before picking up a guitar at 14 or 15. It wasn't the last instrument either but it has been the instrument I first reach for for a long time.

I've always been keen on gadgets too. From the first time I visited a recording studio I was hooked. I was amazed at how it all worked together to produce such a sound. From then on I wanted to know how to do that myself.

That eventually lead to me starting work in a recording studio and then on to university to study Electronics with Music in order that I could learn how to design Music Technology.

About 2000 I started to learn about web tech in earnest. I started my own web site johnmoxey.com and a free resource for musicians called songstuff.com.

Songstuff has grown from strength to strength and now has thousands of members.
